Still had my original Acer background, but you've inspired me to try something else. This is based on fall, now I can enjoy this beautiful season and work at the same time:)
Would like a handy vertical file bar, like Samual, but don't know how to fix that in Vista.
And great to know about the snipping tool!! In Dutch it is called: "knipprogramma".

Mine is plain black, which is why I don't show it. With a few icons — I keep hiding things to compensate for all the clutter in the rest of my house. With my husband and daughters we would need to live in a football stadium to fit all our stuff and we would probably fill it up in no time. So I try to keep the desktop as clear as possible because it's something that I can (more or less) control.

Really liked seeing all the individual designs and solutions for changing chaos into order! Or not... but you can probably pick the application or file you need blindfolded if you had to Harry:) And nice to see also, some like their desktop tranquil and neat, others some more deco to spice it up. Mine is particularily wild, but I'll just change it when I get sick of it.

It was amazing to see Desktops (screenshots) here. I saw every desktop carefully, Find some new applications from your Desktops, search them on net and got know about them. WOW it was great to know about the things, otherwise I wouldn't be able to imagine about them. perhaps you might not have thought this way. Thanks a looooot, GM. All beautiful images I must say but my favourites are John Paul's Saturn and Andrea Riffo's Wall-E...
Anyway here's mine, the Pinwheel Galaxy (also known as M101). This image has been taken by the Hubble Space Telescope.

The Saturn desktop was John Paul's, not mine...
...Sorry about that! I'll edit the image credit straightaway.
The icons disposition in John Paul's desktop is really nice, they just follow the rings of Saturn. I am also intrigued by Giovanni's mysterious land. Is it a true picture or is it a computer graphic work?

@ Textmill: perhaps this is what you're trying to do:
1. Create a desktop folder called "shortcuts" - don't embellish, i.e. "my shortcuts" or "shortcuts!!!" as it won't work , or so I believe anyway: just "shortcuts".
2. drag all your icons, folders, in fact whatever you want to include, into this folder.
3. Now, drag the entire folder to the very top of your desktop and let go: hey presto!!

3. Now, drag the entire folder to the very top of your desktop and let go: hey presto!!
4. You should now have a horizontal bar across your screen with the icons in it.
5. Click and drag to wherever you want on the screen, you can re-size it to a vertical shape and have it on the left or right, or wherever you want really; you can even turn it into a toolbar. Everything in there will now load with just one click.
HTH.
@ Giovanni: thanks for the re-upload (and the extended credit) (!!)
But not quite a case of 'couldn't be bothered', and more a case of "Go now or you'll miss your MOT slot, it could take weeks to get another one (plus another £30)!" And you don't wanna do that...
Then I had to do boat cover for a team of divers in what turned out to be a hectic (and very enjoyable) weekend, as it happens...But that's another story. In any case, I am not sure picasa was such a great place to upload to, as the settings need to be tweaked. I should have gone with one of the other quoted websites, it probably would have been easier.
If I get a chance I'll maybe have another upload as I have changed the desktop picture again...but how on earth did you know it was Saturn???
Gotta go again! ▲ Collapse | | | Stefano Gallorini (X) Local time: 16:58 German to Italian
