I am a native speaker of English and German and grew up in the UK, Canada and Germany. I have studied and taught at British and German universities (please visit my website for more information). I offer translation services for English and German academic and creative writers. I also translate historical documents (records, correspondence) from German into English and vice versa.
I have over ten years’ experience of translating and proof-reading. I started doing translation work while still an undergraduate – it seemed a natural way for a bilingual student to earn some pocket money! I translated and proof-read articles and texts written by German university lecturers, musicians and cultural institutions such as museums; one piece of work led to another and by the time I graduated I decided that working professionally in this field would form one ideal strand of my career. I am now based in Rutland, England's smallest county, and work as a freelance translator and proof-reader and a part-time lecturer. I have worked with many of my clients for many years now - this is what some of them have to say:
"Margaret's translations render both the meaning and tone of my writing. Margaret is prompt and pleasant to work with, her rates are very reasonable." (Prof. Roswitha Skare, University of Tromsø)
"Margaret has translated and proofread many things for me over the years. I am always impressed by her broad subject knowledge, her creative approach and her reliability. I would recommend her to anyone working in the arts in general and music in particular!" (Stefan Lundgren, Lutenist, Sweden)
