The procedure described does not sound simple and seems to involve more work than using Transit.

Of course, Vesna, it is easier to process Transit files with Transit Satellite PE. I was just saying that it is possible to process Trasit files with other applications, on the contrary of what some people have claimed here.
Then, one should think if it is worth using another application. Personally, I like to process Transit files in Déjà Vu when the Transit file has not been pretranslated and there is no reference material. The processing work just takes me 2 minutes.

As I asked Trados, SDLX and DV for the possibility of processing Transit files with their software - and the answer from ALL OF THEM WAS A CLEAR NO!
Do you process only the target language files or both target and source as a pair?
Would you give an example of DTD-settings for opening XML files?

It is me that it wonders much that DV support has said it is not possible to process Transit files with their software! Believe it or not, I have done many Transit 3.0 and XV projects with both DV3 and DVX.
Here is an example to process Transit XV files with DVX:
1) Change extensions of the target language Transit files, for example, .ESP (Spanish) will be .xml. To rename a batch of files at one time, you can use freeware, such as RKrename.

Here is an example to process Transit XV files with DVX:

2) Import the xml files into DV via Project Explorer. Under "Properties", select the following settings:
Filter: SGML, XML
Filter Definition File: OpenOffice.dvflt
Prevent Segmentation: activated
Encoding: (Default)
3) Translate as usual.
4) When you export the files, select the following settings:
Encoding: Unicode
Export special characters as entities: deactivated
5) Rename the xml files back to the corresponding target language extension. In this example, rename it to .ESP.
And that's all!

Although it will not work for me instantly, as I do not owe DVX (and that's because I was told, it is not able to process Transit).
So I will have to experiment a little bit to get the right DTD settings for it to be able to import it to Trados.
Nevertheless, I think this here will be of a great help for a lot of people.

The segmentation file is the one I mentioned on step 2:
Filter Definition File: OpenOffice.dvflt
You should find the file under:
C:\[chosen folders, for example DVX]\Templates\OpenOffice.dvflt.

But after following exactly the procedure Ignacio described, I found out that DVX can cope with it.
