Transit Satellite PE, Segmentation? Thread poster: Günter Dannhauer

Could anybody tell me how to set up the segmentation for Transit Satellite PE?
Now it puts whole paragraphs into a segment. That does not help me too much.

AFAIK Stallite does not allow the translator to mak the slightest change in the project.
You can perform some settings via profile, but the segmenatation is set (better said: fixed) in the project you get itself.
There is no worsest software to work with, IMHO.

Hello, I work with Transit XV Professional so I'm not sure if this solution is going to work for satellite too.
During the importing procedure, on the last screen (Summary), click on Additional Options, select the Segmentation tab and choose By Sentences.
Otherwise, with your project already imported, select Projects>Settings>Segmentation.

Francesco, maybe Transit is good for you, I will not argue.
But the editor provided in both Transit 2.6 and Transit Satellite PE is that way primitive, that I cannot in any way enjoy working with it. The same is with the editor from SDLX - Windows editor is not worser...
So from the point of view of that person, who has to edit textes with this tools, there is no worser tool to work with as Transit IMO, really.

Hi Jerzy,
I've always worked with full versions of Transit and once you get to know how it works I can assure you it's one of the most powerful tool on the market. I also imagine that working on the free version shouldn't be that easy. I do not know Satellite.
However, when using a full version, even though at the beginning it can be very time consuming to learn how to use it properly, when you can exploit it 100% it's really great.

The authors of Satellite wanted to give translators a free tool just only for working with projects created by others.
In order not to let them "spoil" anything, there are NO possibilities of changing anything in the files itself. The only you can do is to overwritte the text. Even dispacing TAGs is very difficult to do...

And I do not argue, that Transit may be a powerfull tool. But it is very inconvenient to use for me. Regardless of the version, the art its editor works is terrible. There is no writing comfort at all.
So that´s why I prefer to use Trados.
It is really more user friendly than any other tool - in my eyes.
