Subtitling Conferences, trade associations or publications?

I am a graduate student in translation/interpretation and want to become a subtitler. However, my university does not offer a speciality, and therefore I am having to research the field on my own. Does anyone have information on upcoming conferences in the US, trade associations that I could look into joining, or publications used in the field to which I could subscribe? Thanks for your help!

I'm sure my experienced colleagues will give you some professional advice but I hope the articles will come in handy as well.

Best of luck!

You can see the program of the 2004 conference and get a general idea.

There are several subtitling companies offering internships or trainings (these can be rather expensive), but for a student the internship option could be interesting.
