I was thinking to charge my lawier to send them an email stating my formal prohibition to use my CV for any reason whatsoever

Enough said May 12, 2013

Dear Translator,
...

I usually stop reading after any generic salute. Most of the time it is either a scam, fraud or an abusive offer, so as a rule of thumb it saves me quite a lot of time and mostly frustration (about the ill-state of the marketplace).

If it wasn't sad because some people are actually falling for it and the traction some of these scams are getting, I would have suggested to lough about it.

Thank you for sharing.

The same here May 13, 2013

I've received that same email and, after having read the first paragraph, sent it to where it belongs: File 13.

Nobody will receive my permission to use my CV. There's too much abuse of data going on for me to even consider such an "option".

Beware of Scammers! May 13, 2013

Dear Angie,

For some tie now, I have been receiving similar emails from people who call themselves "project managers" or "recruitment officers" from unknown (and even known) agencies. Dear Angie,

For some tie now, I have been receiving similar emails from people who call themselves "project managers" or "recruitment officers" from unknown (and even known) agencies. It ges without saying that they are mere scammers... For having received so many of such "offers", I have come up with a list of key indicators to point out these unscrupulous people:

1. They usually have a poor mastery of English (although they may have British or American names.
2. They tend to have public email addresses (AOL, Gmail or Yahoo).
3. They ALWAYS make amazingly tempting offers to easily trap uncautious linguists.
4. Most often they do not do it the right way (your instinct should alert you).
5. Such emails are generally addressed to "whom it may concern"

Colleagues may complete this list based on their own experience. But, in brief, BEWARE OF THESE SCAMMERS!

"They want to use my CV" -- And they will... May 14, 2013

These scammers keep hiding their stealing of legitimate CVs behind this story of authorization request to "market" translators CVs. Sometimes, they'll modify your name, use somebody else's address (if any) and, yet, some other victim's real CV. It's a copy, cut and paste operation at a scale difficult to grasp. In one message sent to me, they claim to be marketing "hundreds or thousands of emails". They hide behind arab (mostly) and asian names and variations thereof and behind gmail or hotmail addresses. The operation is very wide, and they use a network of websites and other connections. They even blackmail you, if you try to have access to the email addresses created by them with your name.

It's all here (and the list keeps growing every day:
