Scam and CV theft - Militaris.net Thread poster: gail desautels
|
Yet another scam agency posting stolen CVs, and using fake pictures:
www.militaris.net
you can Google the text for the CVs for all of the translators posted, and come up with the real translators who were victims...
Militaris has been active lately and is contacted people to work for them, which is how this has all surfaced...

Sounds like he could be a hacker from a 90s movie
I also find it interesting that all the fake translators are male despite some of the stolen information being from female translators.

yes, and he has a bit of trail for various writings on the web, including a long story about masturbation....
and even a FB page : https://www.facebook.com/john.bloomen
it doesn't look like he has been too active since June 2012 - maybe he is already in jail....

you are right about the new name: https://twitter.com/eeugenn, looks like he uses that for all the books he claims to have written too, if he didn't borrow that name too

I received an email this morning from this scammer and forgot about it after I did not find the company or individual listed on the Blue Board or Payment Practices. It's nice to know that these simple steps still work.

Thank you for letting us know, Gail. This makes me glad that I have not included my CV in my profie on Proz. My CV has been posted to quite a few job posters, though....
One of the CVs matches one belonging to a colleague on Proz, five CVs are matches found at a café.

John Fossey Canada Local time: 11:36 Member (2008) French to English + ... Novel business model | May 3, 2013 |
Interesting thing is that in the email I received from this company they say they pay translators $0.10 per word, while on the site they tell clients they charge $0.08 per word. That sounds like a very interesting business model.
