Yet another scam:

"Lieber Kunde,

Vielen Dank!

I doubt that DP would use the word "kriegen" plus a few other oddities in the text. I guess most people will not fall for this, but just in case ...

EDIT: I tried to post this under scams but it seems to have arrived here automatically (with no copy under "scams".

So where's the scam? Oct 1, 2012

As you say, David, very obviously not kosher — but where's the actual scam? Is it perhaps a fake link that will take you to somewhere that is going to infect your computer with a Trojan horse, worm, virus, etc.? Have you tried hovering the mouse over that download link (without clicking!) to see what the ACTUAL link behind it is?

Actually it comes with a zip file that you are asked to open to print out a label - and I am more than pretty certain taht that will contain some virus or other undesirable element. Perhaps scam isn't the right word, but it is still a dodgy mail.

Das muss ja ein Scam sein. Denn solche Dinge von der Post kommen sicher nicht über eine E-Mail-Adresse, welche ja überhaupt nichts mit einer Postsendung zu tun hat

The scam mail came in german - I can't see much point translating it into English. It is probably only addressed to recipients in german speaking countries. Is there a separate topic section for scams in other languages?

Obvious scam Oct 2, 2012

They know about an undeliverable delivery, but they don't know your name.

I'd hope that not most people would fall for it. If yes, most of them wouldn't deserve any better.

that is true, but it might depend on how well they know German.

"Kriegen"? Oct 2, 2012

Indeed, if the Post used "kriegen" in reality... Germany would be doomed.

Indeed! Let us be grateful that scammers generally seem not to have acquired the language skills of the person they are claiming to be!

I think you are absolutely right that we should be thankful that the people trying to pull the scam are lacking language skills - if we face it, if they had the language skills it wouldn't be that hard to "trick" people into downloading the file without thinking further about it.

David,

I also don't see any point in translating scam into English. My request is addressed to Rolf Kern whose post is in German while the working language in this forum is English. In case there is a need to discuss in German this may be done in the German forum.

Best,
Natalia
