My husband has graciously agreed to allow me to use our home for our little get-together. I would then ask everyone to bring a dish so we can make it a Potluck. I live in Mar Vista (behind Marina Del Rey) and I can fit 15 comfortably (20 squished) in the house (it's a bit too cold to have it in the back yard and I don't have a heat lamp). The other option is if everyone chips in $10-15 I can get the thing "catered". Is this more acceptable than going to a restaurant or coffee shop to everyon... I live in San Bernardino, but don't mind cimmuting to any of the mentioned locations. I do prefer Pasadena or downtown LA. A potluck in Mar Vista sounds great---it's a great suggestion!---more personable and a lot cozier. If not $15-25 is fine with me. Exactly when would this be? What is a PNS interviewer. I think I may volunteer to be a reporter or an interviewer. Tell me what PNS ism please.

Keeping It Simple | Dec 3, 2001 |
I think the food aspect should get lowest priority. If Julia and her husband are kind enough to offer the home, soft drinks and coffee with cookies will be the least disruptive thing to do. Or people can bring a sandwich. Then we can concentrate on our common professional concerns. Any objections to this keep-it-simple approach?
JamesK United States Local time: 04:15 German to English + ...
I think BYO sandwiches, and otherwise simply coffee and soda are good ideas.
Who will confirm date, place, etc.?

I agree on the simplicity so we can concentrate on other interests. I will be coming from Oxnard and need to get directions. If you need money for the coffee and cookies, let us know. Thanks for offering your house Julia. Hope to hear about the final details soon. Cristina

There will be other Powwow's in the next few months in other Southern CA areas (I'm planning one in Orange County in Feb., one in San Diego or San Bernardino in late spring, and so on...). Don't dispair, it will be rolling around your way at some point.

So far I have only 7 RSVP's and will make sure there are enough snacks for 10 but it would be nice to know who else is thinking of coming. I have the list so that we can do the ID check, I have a camera (not digital - if anyone has a digital one please bring it) so we can do profile pictures for those who want it (if no digital camera is available you will have to wait until I develop the film - I will scan the pics in and send them to those who requested them for approval), and I have DSL and ... What I cannot do at this point is the Native Speaker Interview. That will have to wait until the next Powwow.
