Anyone want to take on the responsibility of choosing a place and time? | | | well it´s a dirty job.. but somebody has do do it | Nov 29, 2001 |
I am in Deerfield Beach, so either Miami or Ft Lauderdale is OK with me. Feel free to call me at 786-859-5151 or email me at Blues2Bach@aol.com to confirm or suggest. I will bring my digital camera. I´d l like ether Bayside in MIami or the Fisherman´s Wharf in Pompano Beach. Open to any other suggestions. We still have a couple of weeks to decide
I live in Pompano Beach, just down the road. Of course I like the idea of Fisherman's Wharf, but if there are more people near Miami, maybe a more central location would be better. Bayside actually doesn't sound bad, since looking at the interested parties, there are at least two saying that they would prefer to meet close to Miami. In terms of time, maybe we could do lunch? You can reach me at (954) 942-7329 or (954) 649-0588, or e-mail me at <... See more I live in Pompano Beach, just down the road. I believe we are ready to get the essentials together and get this PowWow rolling. We are 15, 10 want Ft. Lauderdale or Miami (8 votes for Miami), 2 did not express a preference. So it is the 15th, at what time?, where exactly? I don't think we can find a good place in Bayside - they offer the Food Court and Hooter's, basically. George, what do you say?

Majority wins | Dec 3, 2001 |
It makes no difference to me. The most important thing is that we try to get the most people interested. I just happened to mention the Wharf and Bayside cause I am familiar with both places. Any other suggestions are most welcome. The Hard Rock cafe at Bayside has a nice sitting area outside where I met with some people there before. The Fisherman´s Wharf in Pompano is nice and a lot easier (and cheaper ) to park there, but the place itself is smaller and if there are more than a few people it... As far as the time, whatever is most convenient for most people. I encourage all to post their preferences here and then we will tally up the most popular place and time and we will abide by the wishes of the majority. ▲ Collapse | | | Katrin Jarvis United States Local time: 19:08 English to Swedish + ... Ft. Lauderdale | Dec 3, 2001 |
I live just south of Tampa, but I happen to be in West Palm Beach on Dec 15, so I would love to attend if it would be in the Ft. Lauderdale area! | | | Riverwalk in Ft. Lauderdale | Dec 3, 2001 |
Hey, how about Riverwalk in fT. Lauderdale? It's fairly central, there are a lot of possibilities in terms of food, and it's a very attractive spot. There are some all day parking lots that aren't too expensive in Ft. Lauderdale. What does anyone think?
Riverwalk is an excellent idea. I wish Ihad thought of that before... more spacey and if one place is too crowded we just move to the next. Thanks Laurie..
Those of you who are not familiar with Riverwalk take a look at the Ft Lauderdale page on the net

Ft. Lauderdale is rather central and only 45 minutes away form most palces in Miami. I do have a van that sits seven, if anyone is interested in car-pooling. | | | mtpringle United States Local time: 19:08 English to Spanish
I suggest FIU in Miami, Saturdays is less crowded. Also what about the schedule?
I can make it morning 10 to 1 or something like that.
OK, so Giovanna, Katrin, Laurie, and myself like the Riverwalk idea in Ft. Lauderdale. I encourage those of you in Miami (or elsewhere) to take drive. I will email each of you individually to confirm who else is interested in attending.
Count me in. I'm in Hollywood so it's quite close for me.

so far so good | Dec 5, 2001 |
Thanks Maria (mepaz),Beth and Nermina. Sorry you can't join us.
So far it looks like Giovanna,Laurie, Katrin, Carolina, and myself all agree on lunch time at Riverwalk in Ft. Lauderdale. Kirk is a maybe.. long drive for him, but I hope he can make it, and MT should consider driving up to Ft. Laud. from Miami. Noon should be a reasonable and convenient time for most. The exact place within Riverwalk yet to be decided. | | | mtpringle United States Local time: 19:08 English to Spanish
From the beginning this event was organized to be set in Miami. I suggested FIU since it is of easy access, it is free, including conference rooms at the library, it has a cafeteria and food services and A/C. The ATA sponsors their Translation exams here and FIU has a Translation and Interpretation program.
Sorry, but I don't think I will be driving to Fort Lauderdale to a place that has not been decided in a crowded location such as Riverwalk. | | | I have no problem... | Dec 8, 2001 |
.. going to FIU or any other place. However, we do have to agree on a location and if we are gonna meet at all, and seems to me that the most logical place is a place where the most people agree to go. If this was a conference of 30 or 50 people, then I would definitively agree that a lecture hall or conference room at FIU would be best suited. But this is just a casual social gathering, and a chance for a few of us to meet each other in a pleasant setting. So, I have no authority to decide on... See more .. going to FIU or any other place. This is my suggestion:
