I have just received an e-mail from a client in another country saying that they wish to pay me for some work I did and, as the bank charges to pay to my Brazilian account are outrageous they suggested paying into my UK account at a major UK bank.

Thanks so much. I'm a bit surprised that the bank wants this, as I have informed the sort code and also the IBAN (which contains the bank code and branch number within the string), and even the name of the bank and branch.

In any case, I have told the client the number again, this time as "clearing code" rather than "sort code", hopefully things shall be OK now.
