Importing files not possible Thread poster: Elisabeth Monrozier

Hello,
Seeking some help with MemoQ! I have just downloaded version 4.5 and figuring out how it works. Unfortunately I haven't got very far as I can't import Word files (both bilingual and monolingual, .doc or .docx). I have only managed to create a project. I must be missing something really obvious... Any thought?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Tomas,
Thanks for the advice. The video didn't help me, since what I am doing is exactly what is shown in the video. When I try to import, either nothing happens (the process stalls) or I get an error message "General error. TYPE:

Of course, I have no idea what it means...
After trying further, I can see it does work with some Word files. ▲ Collapse | | | Just as additional information... | May 12, 2011 |
What version of Microsoft Office do you have installed in the machine?
The documents you are trying to add to memoQ... do they open alright in Microsoft Word?

The questions that Tomas is asking are of course important, but what I would do is send the error message to support (support@kilgray.com) - I'm sure they'll be able to pinpoint what the problem is. | | | You can only open bilingual Word documents as DOC/RTF, not DOCX | May 14, 2011 |

DOCX is not supported as bilingual (= "uncleaned" document translated by Trados/Wordfast) documents. If you have such documents, save them as DOC (or RTF) and you will be able to open them in memoQ (via 'Add document').
Monolingual (= not segmented by Trados/Wordfast) DOCX documents should open fine, either via 'Add document' or 'Add document as'. In fact, DOCX should be the preferred format for such documents.
Thanks everyone! The problem is in fact with some of the Word files. I have a problem with my client's template and it must interfere with the import too. Other files are ok though. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Importing files not possible CafeTran Espresso |
