Formatted text in xml files

What is the best way to handle formatted text (e.g. bold or italic) when translating xml-files? Is it possible to import an xml-file in a way that allows me to translate a sentence containing, say, one word in bold characters and one in italic without memoQ splitting the sentence at the formatting tags?

This is what I want:

"This is a test sentence."

Not this:

"This
is
a
test
sentence."

Obviously, the order and number of words often differs between source and target languages so ideally I'd like to handle formatted words in the target text as independently as possible. What is the best way to do this? I'm running memoQ Pro 4.5.25.

Create a different XML definition Dec 8, 2010

In my opinion what you need to do is to create a new XML definition in MemoQ. The process is quite simple actually. You might want to see this video from Kilgray's website. It explains it all!

Basically what you want to do is to find out what XML tags are used for your simple formats (bold, Italics...) and make them internal instead of external, which is probably what they are now.
