My question:
What does the "or otherwise" at the end of the sentence mean?
My dictionary says it "refers to the opposite of the preceding word, especially in situations where either of them may be correct." However, I cannot tell which of these words are the "preceding word" in this situation, so this "or otherwise" is very fuzzy to me in meaning.
I posted this as a Kudoz question under the English to Chinese language pair, but I thought I would post it here as well to get more answers. ▲ Collapse | | | David McFegan Hungary Local time: 02:19 Hungarian to English + ... in any other way | Oct 2, 2012 |

"Legal Entity" shall mean the union of the acting entity and all other entities that control, are controlled by, or are under common control with that entity. For the purposes of this definition, "control" means (i) the power, direct or indirect, to cause the direction or management of such entity, whether by contract or otherwise, or (ii) ownership of fifty percent (50%) or more of the outstanding shares, or (iii) beneficial ownership of such entity.
