that is why counting words is intrinsically fairer, when one language is English. Count always the English, irrespective whether source or target, since English does not compound words, UK even less so than US English. Even typing is usually done by word, i.e., whether you type five or seven strokes in a word, it usually takes the same amount of time, so I\'ve noticed, hence the argument that German takes longer to type may be wrong.
