This list of animal sounds in Spanish by Fundéu BBVA gave me the idea of starting a thread to finding out how animal sounds are referred to in different languages.

Here is the list in Spanish:


*Asno: rebuzno, roznido (rebuznar, roznar)

*ave: reclamo, ululación

*caballo: bufido, estufido, rebufe, relincho, relinchido, hin (bufar, rebufar, relinchar)

*cerdo: gruñido, gruñimiento (gruñir)

*chicharra: garlado, chirriar (chirrido)

*ciervo: brama, rebramo (bramar, rebramar)

*cigüeña: crotorar

*cuervo: graznido, (grajear, croajar, crascitar, croscitar, crocitar, graznar)

*elefante: barrito (barritar)

*gallina: clo, cloqueo, cacareo (cacarear, clocar, cloquear)

*gallo: quiquiriquí, cucú, cuclillo

*gamo: gamitido, ronca, (gamitar, agamitar, roncar)

*ganso: graznido (graznar, gaznar, voznar)

*gato: miau, maúllo, maullido, mayido, maído, marramau, marramao, ronroneo, fu, fufo, (maullar, *mayar, miar, miagar, bufar, ronronear, marramizar)

*golondrina: trisar

*grajo: graznido, (grajear, croajar, crascitar, croscitar, crocitar, graznar, gaznar, voznar)

*grulla: gruir

*jabalí: rebudiar, arruar

*león: rugido (rugir)

*lobo: aúllo (ulular, otilar, aullar)

*oveja: balido, be (balar, balitar, balitear)

*pájaro: trino, trinado, gorjeo (hablan, parlar, cantar, reclamarse, responder)

*paloma: arrullo, zureo (arrular, zurear, cantalear)

*pantera: himplar

*pato: parpar

*pavo: titar, gluglutear

*perdiz: ajeo (cuchichiar, castañetear, piñonear, ajear, serrar)

*perro: aúllo, aullido, ulular, gañido, ladrido, ladra, latido, gruñido (ladrar, ladrear, latir, aullar, gañir, *regañir, arrufarse, regañar)

*pollo: pío, pitío, piada, piulido (piar, pipiar, piular)

*rana: croar, groar, charlear

*serpiente: silbo

*toro: bufido, estufido, rebufe, mugido, mu, bramido, frémito, berrido (mugir, remudiar, aturnear, *berrear, bufar, rebufar)

*tortola: arrullar

*zorra: tauteo

I think it's interesting that in Spanish there are many different words to express the sound of the bull...

Anyway, here's a list in Italian:

Allodola- fischia, trilla, canta
Ape (calabrone, mosca,vespa, zanzara) – ronza
Aquila- grida
Asino, Mulo- raglia
Beccaccino- fischia
Canarino- canta, gorgheggia
Cane- abbaia, guaisce, ringhia, latra, ulula, uggiola, mugola
Capinera- cinguetta (Passero- idem)
Capra, Pecora- bela... See more
