Strike while the iron is hot

Amazing how many languages (maybe 7) mentioned an idiom equivalent to "Strike while the iron is hot", which brings to mind an image of a medieval ironsmith doing his thing, creating swords to fight dragons probably.
In Portuguese we have the opposite, "striking on cold iron", which means that you are wasting your time trying something.
