Mac/Linux version of Fluency Thread poster: Dominique Pivard

Just learned (here) Western Standard has released (Java-based) Mac & Linux versions of its Fluency tool. Funny they didn't even bother to announce it on this forum, btw. Has anyone tried it? | | | esperantisto Local time: 00:18 Member (2006) English to Russian + ... SITE LOCALIZER I won’t bother… | Dec 20, 2014 |
…because it’s still beta (bugs possible) but requires Java 8 (even more bugs possible). And requesting to input personal data in order to download a beta version is, IMHO, quite arrogant of them. | | | |
I see nothing wrong with asking for contact details for a beta test. Asking for a phone number is odd but the email address is pretty much essential. The whole point is to get the software tested, so they need to be in contact with users: ask whether they are getting certain bugs, let them know about workarounds, new versions, features they would like people to test or just ask them if the software is working well for them.

Whether it makes sense for a translator to participate in the beta is another question. If you are interested in the software and are willing to use it while always keeping a backup option open for rescuing jobs in case of trouble, why not?

Reason for asking for your phone number | Dec 21, 2014 |

Not odd at all, given that Western Standard's salespersons are known to place unsolicited phone calls to prospects and try to force a sale during the conversation. If you want to avoid that, not only should you enter a bogus number, but also a fake name and disposable e-mail address, lest they may try to get your phone number from other sources. | | | Dmitriy Gromov Russian Federation Local time: 00:18 English to Russian + ... Failed to launch Fluency Now on Xubuntu | Oct 15, 2015 |
I have installed Fluency Now on Xubuntu 15.04
It fails to launch, showing an error message.
Now I'm trying to discover the package name to uninstall and then, reinstall it.
