I don't know exactly Feb 2, 2018

...as I stopped working with them for a couple of years ago, after they dropped the rates below the acceptable minimum and increased the payment terms to 60 days. However, at that time there was no charge for using geoworkz website. But then, I have never reached their monthly threshold of 30,000 words mentioned above.

Good ol' scams... Feb 2, 2018

The French have a saying when confronted to this kind of practices: "Give me your watch and I'll tell you what time it is".

Nothing speak volumes better than that.

Still relevant today Apr 7, 2019

Angel Llacuna wrote on 1 Feb 2018:
Are the [Geoworkz]-related issues described in this old thread still relevant as of today ?

It's still the same.

The "free trial" is advertised loudly and on several pages as "€ 0/Monthly", but elsewhere it unobtrusively says "Just cancel your plan within the first month and pay nothing", which we have now all learnt does not relate only to paying accounts or to the first month after your free trial, but to the first month of the "€ 0/Monthly" account.

In short, the "€ 0/Monthly" account is not €0 per month, but €10 per month.

Also, the "free trial" only applies if you choose the €10/month account, which is for 5 000 words, which is very little, which is why many translators sign up with the €25/month account, which is for 30 000 words, to which the "free trial" does not apply. And I can't tell if you're still require do give 3 months' notice when you cancel your account, but previously it was so, which meant that translators had to pay €30-€100 before they were released from the contract.

There is always the 'nuclear option' Apr 17

It would seem that I too have fallen victim to this scam. I can't find anywhere to cancel my account. Where can I do that?

11 years later - but still could be useful to know.

In cases like this there is always the 'nuclear option' - close your bank account. I had to it once because of a hard-of-hearing company which simply ignored few months in a row my requests to cancel their services. But then in UK it's quite easy to open another basic bank account.
