It's either third-party defendant or defendant to a counterclaim (BE) - not TD def. to a CC.

In Eng. & Wales, a defendant serves a TP with notice. But it is the plaintiff/claimant who can add a co-defendant to an existing defendant.

It is actually difficult to translate just the term 'chiamato' without any context. But the only thing which pops to mind when thinking of a law suit and a 'chiamato', is a 'chiamato in causa', which is a third party called in the law suit.
