Casquette

French to English Tech/Engineering Business/Commerce (general) Trade fair info
Hello again
Am translating info for exhibitors in a trade fair, the following also comes from descriptions of stands available for hire.
1 casquette en PVC ajourée sur le pourtour du stand.
This appears to be a sort of cover on top of the stand around the perimeter of the stand on three sides, with strips of PVC between the frames alternating with open areas, in a sort of ladder effect! Sorry if that's not clear...Have gone for canopy, but that's just an educated guess! Thanks for any help!

Anne Greaves (asker) Sep 28, 2012:
Haven't included pictures for confidentiality reasons, but this casquette looks nothing like a marquee or gazebo roof. If you can imagine a ladder laid horizontally only the rungs are rather wide strips of PVC, attached to 3 sides of the stand (inside), that's about the best description I can give.

Gazebo / (Mini) Marquee

Gazebo seems to be as widely used as marquee at the moment:

"ga·ze·bo
1. A freestanding, roofed, usually open-sided structure providing a shady resting place.
2. A belvedere."
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/gazebo

"Marquee
1. .....
2. a rooflike shelter, as of glass, projecting above an outer door and over a sidewalk or a terrace.
3. Also, marquess, marquise. British . a large tent or tentlike shelter with open sides, especially one for temporary use in outdoor entertainments, receptions, etc."

pergola

Based on the discussions only. This is what I would call a "ladder"-like structure that covers a stand.

canopy

"Canopy" appears to cover it.
Or, at the very least, put a name to the top part of the tent-like device here, and you have it:

"Stand à casquette pour exposition et foire"

Came up on Google images, searching with casquette + foire -- Google images can be handy when you need to visualise something.

A crown???

Made from PVC, which is tough plastic, so maybe something simple like "top part" would be more appropriate.
