Afstempelen

Dutch to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks Description of operation of a truck axle
Bij het afstempelen van het voertuig zullen de luchtbalgen van de as, ter bescherming, automatisch ontlast worden.

This is in a section about the traction boost for operation of an axle on a truck. The previous paragraph has referred to the operation of the traction boost, the improvement in traction and warning lights. This is followed by the sentence above. My dictionaries all give 'stamp' or write down of shares for afstempelen which does not make much sense to me here. It occurs three times in this small section, including a reference to the signal "Voertuig afgestempeld". I have tried asking the project manager but he wasn't sure and I was advised to consult technical experts in the field.

deployment of the stabiliser legs

Hi John,
I'm pretty sure they're talking about deployment of stabiliser legs here. You know what I'm talking about: The legs on a crane (or even a caravan) that jack the frame up so it's no longer supported by the wheels and suspension. The pneumatic circuit for the air springs has to be relieved first (opened to atmosphere), otherwise the entire weight of the axle and wheels will be hanging from them when the vehicle is raised. Hope this helps.
Regards,
Ben
