Studio SP3: Can't open project (error in xml document, unclosed literal string)

Dear all,

After the last crash, I can't open the project that was open. The error message goes:

"Can't open project [project name] couldn't be activated. Project couldn't be loaded from [path to sdlproj file] [all this in German, rest in English]: There is an error in xml document (280, 43). There is an unclosed literal string. Line 280, position43".

What's happening, what can I do?

Please try to delete (after backuping) the Projects.xml file Nov 29, 2010

Go to Documents, SDL Trados Studio, Projects and backup the Projects.xml file
Then delete it and try again

Dear Jerzy,

instead of deleting it, I just renamed it to "project.bak". Should this be fine?

After restarting Studio, the projects window now is completely empty!

That is normal Nov 29, 2010

Now please go to the project folder, double click the sdlproj file.
This will open the project - and the trouble should be gone.
In this way you can also restore other projects.

Dear Jerzy,

Thanks for your help! I've done as you suggested. However, I can't open the project (error message: "Das angegebene Projekt kann nicht geöffnet werden.")

Any further ideas?

Recreate the Project.xml Nov 29, 2010

delete the project in question from the project list, but NOT from HDD.
Move the whole project folder to another location.
Recreate the project with exactly the same name and structure.
Replace the ProjectTM and the target SDLXLIFF files by the files from the project you moved elswhere.

Hi, I have had the same problem now.... due to running a QA check / verification on a big Studio file - I was inpatient and stopped it on 8% after 20 mins.... on re-opening the project, it showed the "unclosed literal string" error as for Erik. It has been solved thanks to the above instructions
Just thought I would let the others know about the source of my error and also praising the solution

Can't find the Projects.xml file Feb 2, 2015

I have the same problem, but I can't find the Projects.xml file in the folder structure... Any other hint?
