: Great mystery solver, Sherlock :) On another note, I think our job as translators is to translate the source terms whether they are correct or not (in terms of their financial accuracy in this case).

I totally agree, Gilmar. I only leave terms in the source language when there's absolutely no way out. Obrigado!

indexation of the balance
"The most egregious mark of inflation is Correção Monetária (CM), the indexation system introduced in the mid 70s. Now most professionals appropriately translate that as indexation. However, you will also find the terms monetary correction or monetary restatement, which are improper because their meaning is difficult to pinpoint, as well as price level accounting, which is a misnomer because official CM indices seldom reflected anything like a price index." - Danilo Nogueira
Use of "indexation" in context:
"From 5 April 1988 to 5 April 1997, SERPS provided indexation of the balance above 3 per cent, where the RPI rose above this level." - UK Parliament Publications

Discussion
Indexation is a completely different operation, as it requires an offical Index. For example, savings accounts have interests and CM added to them, i.e., they are restated per the inflation. Tax debts are restated according to the SELIC rate, that is, there is an Index specifically for that purpose; it's an example of indexation, not Correção Monetária. There is no official index called CM.
